856 vs 1256

I am looking at buying a 1256 for basically an all around the farm type tractor. I have been told by many that the 856 was the best IHC tractor ever built. I'm curious if the 1256 carries the same record or are there things to worry about on this model? Thanks, DK

nope,a 1256 is basicly the same as the 856....only more power and category '3' 3point(instead of cat 2 on 856).they are both damn good tractors. My 1256 has 20,000 hrs.

A 1256 is basically the same as a 856! A 12 has a turbo and alittle more fuel pumped to it to gain the extra power. But all and all they are almost the same tractor. The only thing is they are both getting to be old tractors and probably have alot of wear on them by now!

Thats what I was hoping to hear! There were a lot of 856s around this area (central Nebraska) but not too many 1256s. Ground just wasnt tough enough to require that kind of power in those days. This 1256 is on an upcoming auction and I'm hoping to get it bought right! An 856 would do but I love the turbo! A neighbor of mine has a 1206 I've been trying to get for years but I think thats not gonna happen so I'll settle for this route!

So next question is: a 1206 has a DT361 and a 1256 a DT407. Besides the updated shifting levers in the 56 series is that the only differences between the 1206 and 1256?

yep,the engines and shifting are the major differences.the 3point arms are a little different, but still the 'same'.If you buy this tractor, post a pic...we'ed love to see it!
