I know I should know this, but... I figured out with your help that I have 2 6 volt batteries. I have the charger on them right now. 6V at 6 amp.

I noticed that it is wiresd as Ground to neg on batt one, Poss on batt one to neg on batt 2, poss on batt 2 to starter.

The out put on that is 12 volts right?

Batterys as described are from ground to 6volt battery (1) negative terminal from battery 1 positive terminal to Battery 2 negative terminal, From battery 2 positive to starter system heavy wires. This is 12 volt total with a negative ground. It can be charged in two ways, either will work.
A 6volt charger can be placed on Battery 1 with Pos to Pos, Neg to Neg. Then when it is charged tha charger can be placed on Battery 2 Pos to Pos, Neg to Neg. When both are charged it is good to go.

The other way is to hook a 12 volt charger to Battery 2 Negative, and Battery 1 Positive.
This will charge both at the same time.

Specific gravity testing would be a good check on cell condition. and state of charge. Jim

If you want the tractor to be completely original you have to stick with the two six volt batteries, however I have found it better on working tractors to replace the 6 volt batteries with a single 12 volt ..... I think it is a group 31 battery we use. Seems to hold charge better and plenty of cranking power. John

Kelly, To keep from having to pull the cover off the RH Batt.. I simply put my Charger (Red + lead) on the + Pos post of the LH Batt and the Charger Black(- Neg lead) on the frame! Because the RH Batt - terminal goes to Frame!
Unless I Think I need to do each Batt Individually. Hope this helps.

You you have the charger on "them" at 6v. Are you trying to charge both of them at the same time. And if so How? You should be chargine just one at a time with a 6v charger. You disconnect that wire that goes from Batt to Batt.

No need to disconnect the cable that is from battery to battery. Just hook up the 6 volt charger +to+ &- to- om one battery , charge it & do the same to the other. Or you can charge both at 12 volts as Jim says.
