I think it is for an umbrella, but can you confirm?

I'm curious what the bracket/clamp is for on my grandpa's '52 H. It's the clamp that is right below the throttle and above the light bar. Right now it is not being used for much other than a way to pull up on the throttle w/ a rope to keep it from creeping.

My guess is that it was for an umbrella (I remember him having an umbrella on his 656, but I don't remember on on the H). Is this right? If so, where can you get the umbrellas these days?

THANKS!!!

I've seen an ad for some time in the Red Power Magazine for them at Heritage Farm Power, Inc., PO Box 485, Raymore, MO 64083 and phone no. 816-322-1898. They also have a website listed as www.tractorumbrellas.com. I have no interest in this company and have no idea about their products but have just seen their ad for quite a while now and trust they are a legitimate business, Hal.

Hal,
Heritage makes a great tractor umbrella. I have the 3 ribbed buggy style and love it. I'm no relative or owner, they are in Missouri and I'm in Wisconsin.

Lowell, I remember those original umbrellas on the old Farmalls back in the 1950's and always wished grandpa had one. I used to drive a neighbor's tractor every year who had one on his Farmall H when thrashing. It was really a difference under one of them with a gentle breeze coming through versus in the baking down open sunshine. Never gave much thought to putting one back on one of my Farmalls as it wouldn't go through the doors on the tractor shed and I have a couple canopy tractors for the real must do work when really too hot to enjoy a Farmall effort.
We are having like a spring day down here in Missouri and heard you folks aren't suffering too bad now either. Received an email yesterday from a friend in Iowa who found a couple of those Parkersburg tool boxes for my Farmalls we talked about a few weeks ago, Hal.

Thanks for the info, guys... My grandpa must have used an umbrella on his H. I'm sure it was needed in southern Illinois in the summer. Like I said, I remember an umbrella on his 656, but it was different in that it mounted in two spots (on each fender).

There were tons of different types of umbrella holders for all tractors in that era just like the several types of the umbrellas that were available.

Hal,

My buggy style umbrella folds down and forward quickly by loosening 2 small handles (takes 10 seconds), then I can drive thru my garage door. The umbrella then is laying down flat, just above the steering rod.
Heritage makes a yellow one for JD tractors, mine is white with the IH logo on front and rear.
I have the axle mount and it is a strong design.

A year ago I drove under a pine tree and forgot to be aware and a pine branch hit the umbrella, lots of scraping sounds with no damage but the fabric had a big green sticky stain. The fabric came off the frame real easy, the local dry cleaner made it like new again.
Love that umbrella. Wish I owned the company!
