Can I remove the PTO assy from a 340?

I'm wondering if I can remove the PTO assy off of my 340 and operate the tractor? If so is there a factory PTO delete plate available for these?

I'm sure there WAS a "factory" plate available, but good luck finding one. You sure aren't going to find it at a CaseIH dealer, unless they just happen to have an NOS one sitting on the shelf for 40 years.

All it is, is a flat piece of steel with approximately 6 holes in it, and a piece of gasket material. Not terribly difficult to make.

Ok, thanks.

If possible I want to have the tractor to have a factory plate installed to be safe with the tech officals at our pulls. Removing the PTO allows me to get the drawbar up high enough and back to 18" from the axle center.

(quoted from post at 11:18:21 02/14/11) Here is the part number for the IPTO delete cover:

358841R11

Thanks d282.

Did you get this number from a parts book online? I wonder if I can get one off a 300 or an H? I've been told the rear ends are the same but I haven't had two side by side to compare yet.

Maybe off a 300, but definitely not off an H or Super H. The H's have transmission-driven PTOs, not IPTO like the 300 and 340.

The Farmall 504 should have the same IPTO as the 340.

If this has the through shaft like the bigger tractors for the PTO drive. I would want the shaft out from the hydraulic pump drive gear back so it doesn"t wind up in the other gears.

A cover off of a 300, 330, 350, 400, 450, 460, 544, 560, 656, or 660 will also work as well as a few oddball models as well. Just a four bolt cover and a big o-ring. All covers are the same part number as listed by d282

O-ring is part # 384398R1
O-RING, power take-off opening cover (7-1/8 x 7-17/32 x 13/64")
