Farmall H -- just curious

Just a quick question. I'm sure that during the war years a lot of these tractors were sold without electric starter or lights. I also know that in the years following, the vast majority of these eventually had the electricals added. I was just wondering if anyone has an idea of how many were never switched over to electric. I'm assuming that such a tractor would not be considered "rare', but maybe "unusual".
I know I've only seen 3 that I know of. And it just so happens, I own 2 of them!

They are around, but I have no idea how many are not converted. My dad had a B and an H bought early in the war or perhaps even before it with no electrics and another B and H bought in 1946-1948 fully equipped. I believe all H's and M's could have electric start added. However the first A's and B's did not have an opening for the starter.

HI RICH: I'M NOT A EXPERT BY FAR, JUST KNOW WHAT I SEEN AND LEARNED.[AND STILL LERARNING AT 57], OUT WEST HERE , THEIR IS CLUBS I'M IN, THAT HAVE IH'S, FARMALL'S,. SEEN A LOT OF DIFFERENT MODELS. I HAD A [H] THAT DIDNT HAVE LIGHTS, BUT IT HAD ELETRIC START, I HAVE A [230] THAT HAS BOTH START AND LIGHTS. I JUST BOUGHT A W-6 WITH BOTH START AND LIGHTS. ONE COULD ONLY GUESS FACTORYS MADE THEM DIFFERENT FOR PEOPLE WITH X-AMOUNT OF MONEY BACK IN THEIR DAYS.

Like a lot of farmers, my dad had some rough times. the 47 H came with starter and lights, when the battery died, or perhaps something else happened, we just cranked it. I started driving that tractor in 1950 at the age of 12, a battery did not get put on it until 1955. I was used to cranking and never thought much about it. Cranking never broke my arm either, falling off my bicycle did, a year before I started cranking the tractor.

I've got the 1940 H that my dad bought in the early '50s. The original owner had traded it to a dealer and they had done a engine overhaul, painted it , and installed an electrical system. Because of when the electrical was added, that tractor has the same system that came on the Super H tractors.

Most H and M tractors sent to the UK between 1939 to 1949 had neither electric starting or lights. I have a 1942 W6, 1945 H 1940 BN and a 1949 M all with starting handles. MJ

Thanks for the replies. I figured there were still some out there. I just know that I had not seen very many, and was surprised to be able to pick up two of them. Now I just need to get the second one running! :D

I did also see a hand crank B at an auction a few years ago, but was not able to get it. As mentioned above, that one did not even have an opening for a starter.
