My Super C doesn't have a water pump??

I pulled the hood off my Super C today for the first time, and noticed it doesn't have a water pump. Also I think it has a standard C head on it? The casting number on the cylinder head is 251172-R2 and the head on my plain C is 251172-R1...I assume this isn't a water pump, because it looks exactly like the unit on my C. It has the taller radiator, and the temp gauge though?? Also the block casting number is 366204 R3 C123. This thing is starting to seem like a pile of parts bolted together. Can having this head on the engine hurt anything?

If you don't have a parts book, you can look up the numbers on CaseIH.com as easily as I can. But, without looking I think the difference is the head gasket and not the head--I can be corrected. The water holes in the gasket are smaller in the SC with a water pump, I don't know why yours doesn't have one. With removal it should convert back to thermosiphon, provided the head is the same and the C head gasket is used. Only my opinion without looking it up.

Also, I think the passages in the water pump type radiator are smaller, also, thus it may not work well with thermosiphon.

The water pump is not by the fan. Follow the big belt. Does it go around a small pulley on the carb side? That is the pump.

Yep, that fooled me too.

The water pump is not in the "traditional" location.

It's on the lower left of the engine.

Well to be honest I'm not even sure lol. Now I'm curious. Guess I'll have to go look!

Look for the third pulley on your fan drive belt. There should be the crank pulley and the fan. The third one, over on the left side of the tractor, is your water pump. It takes the place of the simple double-elbow inlet of the thermosiphon, between the radiator and block on the lower side.

I think your engine block has been changed. The Super C's had block number 354898R1 and some of the Super A's had this block. You could install an overbore kit in these blocks to increase the bore to 3.250" without any machining. Hal
PS: You can probably install a water pump on your engine.

Cylinder head # 251172 R2 was used on the C113 engine, mainly the Farmall C tractor, combines and possibly other implements.

Block # 366204 C123 was the engine block used in the Farmall 130 tractor. Marv

Weird. My C with the C113 has a 251172 R1 head while my Super C has a 251172 R2 which you say the C should have. So if my Super C has an engine from a 130, does that mean it's fairly underpowered?

Well I looked today and sure enough it does have a water pump in the lower left corner. Thanks for the info guys!
