What is the part on the rocker arm called that contacts the top of the valve stem? My A has severely worn (whatever it is called). I cannot use a feeler guage to adjust the valves because they are depressed so far from the valve stem. And are these still available? I can't see how one would get the insert out of the rocker arm unless it is just pressed in there.

Thanks

unless I am misunderstanding your question, it is called a rocker arm.

To the best of my knowledge, there is NO insert. the end that contacts the valve is solid. The other end that goes against the push rods has an adjustable screw with lock nut. No other "parts" on a rocker arm.

The end of the rocker arm that comes in contact with the valve stem can be resurfaced on most valve grinder machines. An engine machine shop should be able to do the job,

If I'm reading your question correctly, the IH manual refers to that as "where the valve lever contacts the valve stem contact," so it doesn't really have a name. It is not an insert, but that surface is hardened. It will wear, but a machine shop can resurface it, as long as there is enough hardened material there to work with.

As far as getting a blade in there, it needs to be a narrow one, as close to the width of the valve stem as you can manage. The surface of the arm is intentionally cupped -- the valve stem moves in a straight line while the arm moves on an arc, and it's that cup that keeps the pressure on the valve stem straight up and down.

Here's the type of rocker arm he's talking about. There IS an insert, but it's generally spotwelded in place.

Bob, good point. I am used to the letter series or the F series. In those, the rocker arms are forged and 1 piece.

Yes, that is the part. Except mine are cupped the other way, as in covering the top of the valve stem. Guess I am out of luck, other than taking to a machine shop or finding different rocker arms.
