I took my starter in for repair. The shop said everything checks out, except some of the fields are bad. They said it is about $275 to fix it.I never had a diesel starter repaired before..Looking for someone with knowledge on this...Thanks in advance..

That is WAY too much. I have never had one cost more than $100 if I took it to a rebuild shop. I suggest Superior in Beloit, WI or Maxim Rebuilders in Burlington, WI. Maxim will be higher than Superior, but no where close to that kind of money.
I sent my 3 bolt SMTA starter in to Superior and than was $100. I JUST did my MD starter and that was $90. Both of those are larger than average M starters. Not sure how much bigger than an M a WD-9 starter is, but that's nuts. Even my 3 bolt conversion starter for my 7.3l PSD was cheaper than that!

I picked up a starter at an auction a few years ago. I was told that if was for a WD-9. Larger in Dia than the common H-M-MD starter. This starter has 6 pole shoes. Most starters have 4 pole shoes. Do you have a number on your starter? I'll check mine tomorrow to see if there are any numbers. charlie
