The original subject was "1939 Farmall M with Detroit diesel at auction".

Here is some paper work I sold on ebay a few months ago. (The three pieces of literature brought $76.35!) The paperwork is right from GM DIESEL. Dated 6-56 (June 1956). It states that "INSTALLATION OF MODEL 2055 GM DIESELS HAVE BEEN MADE IN FARMALL M TRACTORS BY DISTRIBUTORS". So you can tell that puncture wound that"s been pulling that worthless M to get Funked!

I know for a fact that factory experimentals can make it outside the factory ownership. I worked in the engineering experimental lab of a hydraulics company and an International 460U with the best d@*% draft control system I ever operated was accidentally sold (long story) and also an Allis 7040 with an experimental electronic draft control and electronic auxiliary valves was sold as excess when the company changed hands. I believe there was also a Hesston swather and an Oliver (Cockshut) combine that were sold with experimental hydro units on them.
Most equipment had to either be restored to original or at least the experimental parts taken off and the machine sold as parts or scrap, but some did leave with experimental parts. Some were customer owned and were returned to the customer.
So when I see a company experimental machine has made it to private hands, I do not automatically dismiss it as false. Chances are it is not, but it can happen.[/list]
