when removing what was left of the paint and decals from the hood it appears that the word mccormick was small and the farmall word was larger and below it which led me to wonder
do all the farmall Super M have the steering shaft go through the hood by the gauges? and I just have a tractor with a funny decal? The only readable lettering on the id plate is 11560 S.

Not sure are you asking about a SW6TA or a SM tractor? That could be a serial # for a SW6TA, its not a serial # for a SM. SW6TA doesn't have farmall on the hood. Steering doesn't go over the fuel tank.

looks like the sw6ta serial # as they start at 10001-13006. possible that it had the wrong decal installed at some time. should have mccormick with the ihc logo and no farmall. also would have 30" rims on rear. no standard models have steering going through hood.

It's tough to understand what you mean, because IH placed gauges near the steering shaft on both the SMTA and SW6TA, and the untrained eye could say that the shaft "comes through the hood" on both tractors.

All Super M's have the steering shaft coming straight horizontally across the top of the gas tank. The steering wheel is almost straight up and down.

All Super W6 & W6TA's have a steering column more like a car. The wheel is at about a 45 degree angle to the ground, and comes up from underneath the gas tank.

It is entirely possible that someone put the wrong decals on your tractor. Years ago, the selection of decals was not as good as it is now. You'd have a tough time finding decals for a rare tractor like a Super W6TA. Rather than having no decals at all, or paying to have custom decals made, you'd use the closest decals you could find. In the case of a SW6TA, that would be Farmall Super M or even Super MTA decals.

thanks it is a SW6TA. When I removed the rest of the paint the mccormick was etched into the metal where the decals had protected the paint from erosion. I guess someone put on the wrong decals somewhere along the line.
