My dad says I can"t no till into sod with a cyclo. He said the seeders aren"t heavy enough to plant. Is this true or were the springs not adjusted correctly.
Thanks,
rfh

the one we had wasa 6 row and when we did notill went to dealer and bough a kit with notill colters worked good thought the hitch was a little on light side thst planter is still setting wher the guy who bought it parked it been there sence 1984

Did the double spring work? The one I am looking at has a set of no till coulters on it. I also have a second set of no till coulters for it. I thougt i could mount both sets some how.

About the only way a 400 will no-till is if you add a heavier seeding unit such as the Yetter units that were available. These were a complete unit that replaced the original seed placement unit. They would work ok in soybean ground and such, but not the best in sod or harder ground. It would be better to move up to the 800 series planter which no-tilled good, as least my experiences were good with it.

Just to light of a planter. Yow will not be able to maintain seed depth and close seed slot. With no tilling it depends a lot whether you have heavy ground like clay or light soil like sand. As other poster wrote look for a 800 series. Mark

The neighbor had a 400 with the yetter units, problem was the front hitch, rear part of the hitch where it mounts to the frame, and the cross frame needed to be reinforced because of the extra pull of the units. His was an 8row. Another neighbor eliminated the spring and put a solid stop on it so there was no give, he uses it to plant food plots and seems to work ok, my guess if you would hit a rock something is going to bend. 800 has good penetration and is a much heavier unit and are getting down right cheap in our area. Good luck with whatever you decide.
