1945 H transmission clunck- been there?

Two weeks ago I had a "soft" clunk sound in tranny.
Checked for water at drain plug- nope. Not that easy. Still used to plow snow. Today it stalled, cold, and first push of snow. Tried all gears but 5th, and it would make another clunking sound as the clutch grabbed, and then it would stall. Not sure if "bound" or combination of new problem, not being warmed up, and slight rut on both wheels. Pushed ok in neutral.Going to check books and tare off cover. If you have been in one of these, any tips, tricks or ideas? THANKYOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does it make any noise running in neutral with the clutch out? When my H broke a few teeth off the constant mesh gear, it clunked when driving, and sometimes would jam up and stall.

It does not make any noise or reaction while running in neutral with the clutch in or out. I thought I herd a noise when activating the hydraulics. I wasn't paying much attention to that.
I had just added 2 qts. of warm non-detergent 30 wt. oil that I always use. I'm going to check the lift for any problem.... It did back out w/o any noise till I stopped at the snow pile. My gut tells me it's inside- the previous owner patched up 2nd gear over ten yrs. ago. .....
