IHC or Farmall

A suggestion might be to call this site IHC or IHC/Farmall. I think that would help with understanding these red tractors and the confusion. In Canada International is more common vs U. S. the Farmall is more common.even when a person goes to the dealership for parts the question is asked "internatioal or farmall" ??? International Harvester co. built the Farmalls and McCormicks/International as say General Motors built pontiac/buick. So it would be nice to name the forum properly, making some scratch their head and ask themselves what model do i have? thus making more correct statements and proper listings.

Farmall is not a different brand than International. Farmall was the designation used for row crop tractors made by IHC. International was the designation used for "standard" tractors, made by IHC, that would be more come in the Great Plains and Canada. It is not so much a comparison pontiac/buick as it is it would be Camaro RS or SS.

Maybe. Maybe not.

When IH went to the '56 series in 1967, they stopped putting "FARMALL" in big letters down the side of the hood. ALL tractors, whether row-crop, utility, or standard/wheatland, had the word "INTERNATIONAL" on the side of the hood.

Row crop tractors had the word "FARMALL," in small letters, above the model number on the front doglegs, unless it was a "CUSTOM" model.

Was your 656 short and squatty? If so, it was a Utility model, and an INTERNATIONAL using traditional nomenclature.

Was your 656 tall and lanky? If so, it was a Farmall model.

I think there came a time later in production where they dropped the Farmall name, but I agree that Farmall was the [u:8dda1c847d]row crop only[/u:8dda1c847d] designation for years. McCormick or International were the wheatland and utility models. Not all that confusing.

ya, i know its not a diff. brand, its all IHC.i was using the comparison that pontiac/ buick are a general motors product like farmall is an international harvester product.all i am saying is the forum should be named IHC because this would automatically include the farmalls.

The site is called Farmall/IH. Thus covering Row crop, standards and wheatlands. I just hope the McCormick Deering guys don't get lost.

And my 2010 Case/IH has large red and black letters on the hood, "FARMALL 95"
But I go to the "Todays Tractors" to discuss topics regarding it.

I have 2"B " s. The early one ,ser. # 50169, has An "International" plate above the grille and it looks very original. On the newer " B " a 1946 model has a " Farmall" plate, which looks original & I think it is correct. clint

The 706's and some other models came in both Farmall and International names. We had one of each.

Sctaully it is listed on the main discussion forum page as Farmall and IHC. Has been for as long as I can remember.
