I am looking at a model 70 snowblower tommorrow. Any thing I should watch for on this blower?

I'd look for something else like a Lucknow, a Bervac, a Pronovost, a Normand, even an old Mckee. Problem is the output shaft from the gearbox to the fan is only 3 inches long and justs goes into a 2 inch coupling welded onto the fan. It is only held tight with a half inch square key and 2 set screws which don't hold it tight very long. It also has a 3/8's x 4 in bolt through the coupler and the shaft. You can guess the rest, fan starts to move, bolt breaks, fan falls off shaft and gets jammed in the housing. All other blowers's output shaft is at least 12 to 14 inches long and goes all the way through the fan and is held on with a washer and a cap screw. I had a new 80 blower and had trouble with it 2 months after I got it and it was just from snow not blocks of wood, cement blocks, stones, or ag bag plastic, just snow. Good luck Ron
