super M engine kit

Any suggestions as to a good place to get a complete Engine kit for my super M? It broke a skirt off a piston- ready for a OH anyway. Just wondering places you guys have delt with that were good to deal with OR not so good to deal with. Price isn't a huge issue I'd rather have quality then save a buck or two for cheap junk.
Thanks
Rob

Bought complete kit for an A right here on yesterday's tractor parts store. (click on tractor parts on the top left side of the page). The parts for the kit were all made by Tisco and the price was the most reasonable I found (checked a few different places). They have many different kits to choose from. Usually pretty easy to deal with over the phone. They even have kits with overbore. If your looking for even more power check out Denny's carb shop. Advertised in Red Power.

One thing we are not sure of yet- this was my grandpa's tractor and he took 2 tractors and made one- we know that one was a LP and we know he has 2 head gaskets on it to lower the compression. Did Farmall run different pistons in the LP's? I know they ran a different head just wondering where they got their compression at. Whats the number on the LP head or gas head? We are disassembling it this week so I just want to figure out what I've got for sure before I start ordering parts. Not going to pull this one (thats what the deeres are for- ha ha ha) this one augers alot of corn and beans and sits on the post pounder alot, but it never hurts to have extra power. My grandpa was a IH mechanic and a general overall tinker'r so only him and god know what I'm going to find inside the motor!! I do know before the piston skirt broke it had plenty of power. Sitting on 14.9 rubber it would pull 3-14's HARD all day long.
Thanks for the help so far

Grandpa had a super M with a bad motor and bought a LP that was hashed out from the flywheel back- he took the 2 and made one. Compression was high and always pinged so he put 2 head gaskets in to lower the compression so he could farm with it on regular pump gas. I assume thats what you wanted explained. I'm wondering where IH got their compression for the LP's? Was a it all in the head- piston head combination? Just dont want to get a stepped head piston and have to run air plane fuel. Just want to make sure I get my compression right.

on factory super m propane ih used a gas head and 5000' pistons, the same with earlier 400 lp's. the later 400 lp's and the 450 lp's had the lp head and flat top pistons.

(quoted from post at 15:32:48 02/07/11) With all the horror stories of Dennys on this forum, why in the world would anybody risk their hard earned money at Dennys.

What kind of horror stories? Thanks!

Search the archives, lots of info in there. Ive hardly ever seen anything good about Dennys.

(quoted from post at 13:41:29 02/07/11) Care to explain?

I have been on this forum for I believe 12 years, and I have NEVER heard anything good about Denny's (well maybe once or twice, that's it). Mostly problems with their parts, and difficulty getting a satisfactoy solution. Use about any other vendor but them.

Call Mike at Steel Wheel Ranch 785-548-7437. He can find you a quality one at a lower price than most. He is also very familiar with what fits what, some aren't.

I'll second Tom's Agri Diesel, They have lots of Good Quality parts on hand, and the guys that take parts orders are good, they know their parts.
