super m voltage regulator

I'm looking at a picture of a super m that i'm thinking about buying and I see a little black box about 3"x3" down under the light switch left of the brake lever.I see wires running into it, is this a voltage regulator or what? Did this tractor come with it there or should it be somewhere else on the tractor? The tractor is a 53. I don't know if its a 6 or 12 volt system. Thanks

Early 53 like I have is on the rear gas tank support. Later ones I think are on the right side of the steering wheel post. It shows that stuff in my owners manual but I don't feel like going out again to look for it, just came in from plowing snow.

The factory location of the regulator on the Stage 2 (live hydraulic-equipped) Super M is low on the front side of the steering post, about like you describe.

From the factory the SM was 6 volt. Whether it is 6 or 12 volts nearly 60 years later is anyone's guess. You MIGHT get lucky and find it marked on the regulator. Otherwise check whether the tractor currently has a 6 or 12 volt battery.

Our SMTA has it located there. About the dumbest place Harvester could have picked to put it. Right down where your foot hits it when working the brake pedals.
