Just Pickup A McCormick Deering 22-36 Today

I just pickup this McCormick Deering 22-36, as you can see it is in really rough condition but the engine does turn over but it is missing the magneto.

The man I bought this tractor from said when he was a kid he remembers his dad taking the old steal wheels in and having the centers cutout and then having rims welded on. His dad bought this tractor used in the 1940's, he has another 22-36 just like this but it is in a lot rougher shape.
He said this tractor is a 1929? I haven't looked up the serial number yet, does any one know where I could find the serial number tag?
Thanks

FMB, The fenders look real good. Alot of time if a tractor is setting around parts get stolen, you got a very complete tractor. Hope you got it without paying to much. oldiron29

He wouldn't part with the rougher one or was he just too high to be worth it? If it was reasonable I would snatch it up for parts.

I payed scrap metal price, the tractor weights in around 6500lbs=$500+$100 in gas. The other 22-36 is in rougher shape, the engine is stuck, it doesn't have a hood, the exhaust manifold is rusted out at the bottom, it is missing on fuel tank and the fenders are more bent up. But it does have a good carburetor and some other parts it just comes down to is it worth $500?
He also has an old Fordson "F" on all steel that is in pretty good condition, it has the tool boxes in the fenders and they are in really good shape, he also has a Case "D" that is in good condition but it is missing the hood, grill and radiator. But it has good tires, 3 sets of rear wheel weights, the engine is not stuck and it is close to running.
The man who has these tractors collects crawlers, he has a JD track loader, a Cat D7 cable run dozer,a cat twenty two, and another cat crawler.
He said he is not interested in any other tractors besides the crawlers.
so he will let all of these tractors go for scrap metal price.

Good luck with your project. You can take it all the way if you want. Nice sheet metal. I have a 1930 McDeering 10-20 sitting in the barn. Not running, but MAYBE someday. You will probably beet me to it. Enjoy your old iron purchase. Something about those 'ol girls kinda gets ya. Again, best of luck to you with this project!!

The serial number tag is on the back side of the front fuel tank support. Looks like you have a nice project. I started on one similar to yours three or four years ago. I got mine going but never painted it. I have had it to our local show the last two years. It's one of the older tractors there.

Seeing as how you could spend a lot of money on parts that are missing or parts that don't work, I'd buy the other tractor too. Having a parts tractor would be really valuable.

My thoughts, too. And if it weighs 5000 lbs today it will weigh 5000 lbs tomorrow...the only loss is fuel money...and time, but who counts that!

If the other stuck tractor is on good steel I would do the buy just to get the parts. If the wheels are just as bad as the one you have I would likely not buy it. The one you got I would buy also.

good luck
George
