Looking at coating inside of gas tank. Doing some research I keep reading about products called Red Kote and POR 15.

I am looking for recommendations from everyone on their thoughts, opinions and expierences on these or any others products.

Thanks in advance

We have to do the same thing on our Case 830. Need to get it cleaned first though. Anyone tried electrolysis to clean the tanks yet? I saw reference to that but no details.

I've used Red Kote on three of my tractors' gas tanks and it
worked great in all instances. You must clean the tank
thoroughly before application and then follow the directions
carefully. Don't rush the drying time because the longer it
sets up the harder will be the surface of your 'new' tank.
Good luck and please let us know what you think of this
stuff after you've tried it. I'm sure other brands of plastic
coatings would be equally effective. Just be sure to use the
proper chemicals to clean your tank as indicated on the
individual instructions.

Muratic acid and MEK are the two "best" cleaners from my recent search.
RedKote is now called Northern Fuel Tank Liner. It is available at most Carquest stores as well as OReilly's. (per the lady that replied from their website)
Kreeme is junk. Use Por 15 or RedKote/Northern.
Clean and line right away. If you let it sit even overnight there will be new rust formed and you liner won't stick.

One more thing about cleaning the tank that I forgot to mention. I had two of my gas tanks professionally cleaned and they were CLEAN! (I think they dip them in an acid bath because all the paint was gone, too.) The cleaning of the tank is key to success in lining a tank with a plastic coating.

Ther also is Gas tank Renuzit will cost as much as a new tank. I had both tanks on my pick up don 10-15 years ago with no problems. Might even be longer than that .

Nothing to it. Instructions on can. Pretty much just dump the can in the tank, move tank around and around until you can tell the whole inside has been coated (usually you don't need to worry about the top of the tank, just bottom and sides), and then let the excess drain out of the tank. Depending on the size of the tank you may not need the whole quart can. You may be able to get by with using just half the quart and use the rest on another tank.

Thanks to all who responded. I really appreciate it. Several of you mentioned about cleaning it first. I have it now at a local strip shop. It will come back to me completely stripped and clean inside and out. I know they chemically soak it in a tank. I seen the large tubs they do this in. It would be nice to take all the sheet metal there.

Still thinking on that one.
