45 FARMALL CARB PROBLEM

A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO I PUT A REBUILT CARB ON MY 1945 H FARMALL AND ITS HAS RUN FINE ALL THIS TIME, NO PROBLEMS. THIS YEAR IT WOULD NOT START. YOU START TO CRACK IT AND THE GAS STARTS POURING OUT OF THE CARB. THOUGHT MAYBE FLOAT WAS ADJUSTED WRONG. HAD IT OFF MANY TIMES TO READJUST THE FLOAT AND IT HAS DONE NO GOOD WHATSOEVER. ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS. HELP.

Carl,

Sounds like a needle valve and seat problem to me. Probably varnish from evaporated gasoline. Remove the needle and if not a rubber tip, clean it with fine steel wool. If a rubber tip, go to the parts store. Clean the seat with fine steel wool wrapped around a toothpick, then be careful to get the strands of steel wool out of the seat before reinstalling the needle.

Float is cracked & full of gas? Float drop is not set allowing the needle to go sideways? Dirty gas trapped in the needle/seat?

If it ran fine for 2 years, why do you think the float is out of adjustment?

I'd rather think that maybe the float hinge pin came out of the bracket, or you got a speck of rust in the needle valve and seat which is preventing the needle from stopping the flow of fuel. An aerosol can of carb cleaner will cure it, but you need to set the float height back to original specs.

Probably an issue with the needle valve. Probably has some junk in it, that is not allowing it to close.
