McCormick Deering 1020 exhaust

We are presently restoring a 1930 McCormick Deering 1020 tractor. The exhaust manifold baffle and control valve were set to kerosene. I"ve managed to flip the baffle over to gas but the valve is pretty rusted and I"ve been unable to turn it to the gas position. I don"t know what the valve looks like inside or how big a job it would be to free it up. Would it be OK to leave the valve and baffle on kerosene for occasional use with gas only?
