Went on a trip to Memphis TN this weekend and I have to stop at times when ever I see an equipment dealer and see IH tractors. Going thru Dyersburg TN, there was a SMD that someone added a turbo to. They had it all under the hood, exaust coming out of the hood in a different spot. Chrome stack no muffler. I went inside, wife waited in the truck, and wanted to find out something about it. Said he showed it and used it in antique tractor pulls. It was not for sale. Told me it was turning 65hp. I did not know it was possiable to put a turbo on thoes old motors putting air pressure in thoes intakes. What caught my eye when I saw it from the road, he put TURBO decals on it like 1206 and 66 series tractors.

Our neighbor had a turbo on his 450 diesel. They abused it, and it eventually blew up. Cool find.

I"ve seen a few M,400, and 450"s that had turbos on them. In all cases the ones I"ve seen always had a custom sheetmetal intake manifold to handle the positive pressure.

Keystone Turbo www.keystoneturbollc.com makes bolt on kits for Farmall M threw 450 and IH 460 threw 806. The pipe is in the stock location so you need to do nothing to the hood. Go on YouTube and you'll find some videos. they also make Turbo kits for many Olivers and Allis Chalmers

Pretty sure those are only for the gas tractors. BUT, they are pretty sweet. There are three of them in our club. If you can get them to run right they will pull 3rd gear pretty well. The biggest problem is the Keystone guy lives in Hillbillyville, PA and it takes FOREVER to get parts from him. I guess UPS comes around the area once a week whether they need it or not. I am not sure why it is so slow, but all the guys in the club are not in love with it.

I have a turbo from Keystone on my Super M, Im makin 92 horse on the PTO at 540RPM. The only other work i have done to it is played with the govenour and got the rpms up to around 2200 and alot of carb work, They really need alot of fuel when you work em hard, and i also had to retard the timing alot. I have videos on Youtube of it pulling, There under Farmerboy2003. Have a look. I have never heard of or seen a turbo on a MD though, Suppose it would be a fun project.

IIRC the guy that does the best in our club is running a 756 carb.

Chris,
After watching your youtube videos I have to say, I'm impressed. You definately have some ponies under the hood. I don't want to hijack the thread, but do you work that tractor at all? If so, how's it handle field conditions? Sure sounds good too. Thanks. Shawn

Shawn
Thank you. Yes i work it alittle but not very much anymore because its set for pullin. If i turned the rpms down and took some fuel away from it it would work very nice in the field. It doesn't seem to run any hotter but i do notice that the engine oil is alot warmer with the turbo on it. This will be the 4th year that ive had it and i love it.
