IH 445 small square baler, good or bad?????

I've found an IH 445 baler for sale but have never heard much good about IH balers. Always have had a new holland. This baler is in good shape always under a roof and well maintained. Any input is appreciated, thanks!

I have used the IH balers and they are just like any of the others. You keep them clean, lubricated and adjusted properly and they are as good as any.
I run a Massey Ferguson 126 that I wouldn't trade for any of the new ones. Baled over 7000 bales last season and except for the occasional broken wire or for what ever reason a missed tie It was perfect. MMmmm. I will say that in some of the larger fields that I didn't have as many problems as the other operators. If its in good condition I wouldn't have any trouble purchasing it. LarryT

I had both a 440 and a 435 (the 435 from new) They are hay eating sons a guns. Once you run a good IH baler you never will be happy with anything less. many of the lighter balers do not have any capacity. As soon as you try to hurry them they will go to missing. The IH on the other hand, the harder you crowd them the better they tie.

I was a salesman with an IH dealer in the 1970s here in Lincolnshire. I sold a lot of 440 balers every year and had no problems with them at all. MJ

make sure the plunger guides aren"t bent and the hay knife is not nicked or otherwise damaged.

I never worked around many balers but never saw an IH one that would tie a bale if the hay had a green bunch in it. Every time It got a green bunch or tough hay it would not tie. One time I rode the baler and checked every bale to see it tied before the strings got tight. Would not own an IH square baler.
