i changed my c to a 12v alt and wired it to a diag i found on here but my question is what diode do i need from radio shack. it says i can use a light too. i have a small indicator light for a dash can i use that. it has no info on what watage it is, just says 12v. next question . i have the tractor appart and would like to change the seal in the hyd pump while its out, cant seem to find any info for parts just whole pumps for $400 . tried caseih search but alls i get are new tractors, can someone point me the right way. thanks

Look up C in the parts section of www.caseih.com, then hydraulics. The type of seal depends on the part number of the pump, some are orings, some regular seals. Available from CaseIH or any seal/bearing place can cross the number. Someone else can answer your diode question. C's work fine on 6 volt, looks like it is too late for that.

Instead of a diode, I prefer a resistor 10 ohms or some larger which prevents run on (feedback to coil) PLUS affords some degree of current limiting protection.

Or else (perhaPS EVEN BETETR) a low wattage 12 volt incandescent idiot light such as a small tail marker etc. nO 94??? That yields a visual charge indicator PLUS affords some degree of current limiting PLUS prevents run on from feedback. Some even paralell that with a resistor in case the lamp burns out NOW THAT DOES BOUT EVERYTHING LOL

I you insisit on a Diode I use 3 to 5 amps at over 50 volts withstand rating.

A comment to add about using a resistor.
The IH 184 Cub LoBoy for example and some other IH tractors use a resistor. It's a 25 ohm p/n 534784R1/107558C1.
Although your suggestion for using a 10 ohm resistor may work in many cases, it may be a little border line. I tried a 12 ohm resistor on my 184 which worked, but if I shut the tractor off above idle, I could tell it fired a few extra times before stopping. I could tell the difference when I installed the correct 25 ohm resistor.

i know they run fine on 6v but the gen went to hell and its still a working tractor so its nice to have all 12v batterys for switching from rig to rig and for jumping. thanks for the info

Very good point, Ive seen up to a 147 ohm used which still allowed for excitation plus provided even more current limiting protection, however Ive seen only a 5 ohms that worked and prevented run on also. It depends on the RPM and the alternators characterisits and regulation etc etc

Hey if she runs on at 10 ohms increase it Eh

If you want a good light, this one has been working great on my 140 with Nissan alt. for a few years. It's a NAPA #TGA10. They may not have it in stock, but I bet they can get it in a day or two. You can't change the bulb, but it gets maybe 5 minutes of on-time a year, if that. It looks correct once it's in. You just need a simple 5/16 inch hole (not positive about drill size.)
