Service manual for a 1952 H - does it matter which one?

I'll be working on a '52 H this summer and I'm trying to do my research ahead of time. I have the original owners manual and plan on purchacing a service manual to help in this regard. All of the one's on Ebay look to be the same and one of them said it was dated 1941.
Did they print more than one over the years?
Will it matter that I'm looking at info from '41 to work on a '52 tractor (it has battery ignition)?

One more question... I've heard some people on this site say the I&T manual isn't worth it. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I have the 24 page serviceman's guide. It gives just a general layout with most specs. I'm thinking there is another manual that is much more detailed but not real sure. This one does give pretty good information on setting ring gear and pinion and how the carburetor and governor works though so it isn't too bad. I am not a fan of the I T manuals but they often have information the IH manuals don't have.

The I&T manual covers a lot of models so it does not go into a lot of detail on any one system. It does provide a different perspective from the IH manuals. It is perfectly adequate to use with your Operator's manual.

The originla manuals are reprinted by binder books. Seach for them on the web. They do a nice job with the photo and illustration reproduction. At least, check their price before you bid something up on ebay.

There were several changes to the H in it's production run. One was going from drum to disk brakes. Another was chaging to the Super series that came along in the early 50s. If you have an early Super H, a manual for a drum drake straight H might not be the most useful.

If you get a repro manual, do not get a JenSales manual. The reproduction quality sucks. BBalert is way better.

Aftermarket repair manuals have always been iffy. Anything from not covering what they should to bad info. I have the IT manuals for both my 1206 and my Ford 8N. I'm looking for the IH manuals for the 1206. I'm not impressed with the IT one. Seems to be alful thin to cover the tractors listed on the cover. Haven't found any bad info in it yet. The one for the 8N covers 3 tractors, the 9, 2 and 8 N's. They all used the same engine until the last couple of years on the 8 series. The trannies were similar and the hydraulics close. I wouldn't be afraid of the IT for a simple tractor like the letter series from IH/Farmall.

Another place to look is at tractor and farm toy shows. You can vendors there who are selling used original ones sometimes pretty reasonable.

I like the IH manuals the best.If you buy on eBay get original print. I bough a copy that that was poor hard to read and paper was cheep.

The IT manuals provide most anything you need in one manual. The original IH manuals usually don't cover the whole tractor. You may need several IH manuals.
I would stay away from the Jensales manuals. All the ones I have seem are over priced and poor quality. It appears they simply run dirty marked up manuals through a black & white copier.
You can also get manuals from CASEIH, but most of them are also poor quality when it comes to the photos.
Binder Books (www.binder.com) provides good quality IH reprints.

IH service manual from Binder Books will be the latest version, and best for your H. You might consider a clutch manual if you have never worked on one. The only people who don't like I&T manuals are those who are not familiar with tractor repair. It is an excellent supplement to the IH service manual. You will also need the IH parts manual, perhaps more important than the service manual. Except for the I&T manual, stay away from aftermarket manuals.

I've had this I7T manual since 1975. Cost was $4.00 back then. I used it on the Farmall A. Hal
