C charging problem

I have a 1951 C that I rebuilt. I am having problems with the generator charging. I had the generator rebuilt and ended up buying a new regulator. When I first put everything back the amp gauge did not show any charge since I had repainted a lot of the tractor I thought I was not making ground so worked on that and my amp gauge would move to the positive side maybe 5amps. Can anyone tell me when charging hard what the gauge should read. Even though the generator was rebuilt I suspicion something wrong is there any way to use a voltmeter and hook to the generator to see if it is running. Even though the gauge is moving it is not charging enough becasue every time I run the tractor the battery runs down and I have to charge it. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

5 amps is fine, maybe less for a fully charged battery, I suspect the battery is the problem or that something is running it down.

If his battery is running down to where he has to put a charger on, the generator should be charging 10 to 15 amps. Get a voltmeter on the battery & you should have 7.4 volts. If it is lower , the regulator needs to be set up accordingly.

The Voltage Regulator controls the charge rate, once the battery is charged a reading of only 5 amps wouldnt upset me. If the genny is working the batetry voltage should rise from the setting voltage of 6.3 up to at least 6.5 and up to 7 depending on the RPm and VR etc.

Heres my troubleshooting procedure
