826 GAS VS 856,WHATS THE DIFFERENCE?

I know that practically all 826's around have the D-358 in them, and the 856 has the D-407.However,the gas jobs of were much less common, but i believe they offered the same engine,301? If there were an 826,and 856 gas sitting side by side, what would be the differences? Just curious!

The 826 was offered in 358 cu in diesel only with both gear drive or hydrostatid drive. The 856 was offered in 301 cu in gasoline, 301 cu in LPG,(LPG was only offered in 68 and 69) or 406.9 cu in diesel with gear drive only. The 856 was built 68, 69, 70, & 71. The 826 was built 69, 70, 71, & 72. Both the 826 and the 856 were available in Farmall, Farmall High-Clear, and International models.

I have a magazine with a very rare 826 gas, gear drive,MFWD....unless someome one made it up! i don't know why they would want to put a gas guzzler in a big tractor?

The parts book for 6 cyl gas engines lists a gas complete engine for 826, also for LP, different part numbers for 856 gas & LP, I never seen a 826 gas/lp in all my days (47 years) with IH/CNH. 806 gas pretty well soured anybody on gas/lp, diesel was far superior.

Ever seen a 826 hydro PROPANE?Neighbor(dairy man) had one, wore it COMPLETELY out...junked it.I did however, manage to get the 3point(the 3pt now lives on my 706),widefront(it was JUNK!),pto ,and other misc.parts before the scrap monster ate it.

I think the differences between an 826 gas an an 856 gas would mostly be cosmetic.

The hood on an 826 is taller than a 756 hood, but I don't know if it's as tall as an 856 hood.

The grille on an 826 shares the same styling as a 756, with the IH logo in the middle of the grille rather than at the top.
