Found this Char-lynn on Ebay

Found this Char-lynn on Ebay. It was originally on teh M and was described as a factory power steering. That couldn't have been? It looks like it mounted under the hood behind the guages, I had only ever seen after market power steering units being mounted in plain view much closer to the steering wheel. Could any Char-lynn be mounted between the guages or was this a special unit? If so would a unit from an M work on an H?

The M's did not have factory power steering. An after-market mounting plate for the Char Lynn power steering unit is available and still accomodated the original tractor gauges. Char lynn units did indeed mount under the hood and were much neater than the Behlen units which mounted closer the steering wheel and were in plain view.

that would work on either an m or h, also on the jd a+b and some others as well. shoot me an email and i can send you the instruction manuals for the char lynn power steering. i scanned them on the puter

Looks like the one we had installed on a JD 60 in 1958. One of the neighbors with a factory PS 60 said ours worked better. Also a good hand warmer when picking corn in cold weather. It attached to the steering pedestal so it was close.

That one with that gauge plate is for an M. To use that TG on an H you need a wedge shaped spacer.
That's a good unit as it has the correct couplers on the shaft.
Here's mine on a SMTA

I have been looking at older (2006) Stiener catslog and they have complete kit for ONLY $1585. Do not know if they are still available. That sounds like big money to me but in todays world that would be minor exspense on late model tractor

(quoted from post at 12:54:12 01/26/11) Is this a new unit or refurbished? Are they still available?

They, or a similar model, were still available when I retired from Eaton in late 2002. They were manufacturered at that time @ Eaton's Shawnee, OK plant.

I don't see the complete kits on steiner.com now, but I do see various components, just the parts are around $1,000 once you add hoses and other needed parts in could get up there.
