Difference between these 2 front rim styles?

What is the difference between the front rim on tractor #1 and tractor#2? Are the first rims what came out on the 1939"s or were they an option of some sort?
Thanks
Don

Most of the '39's I've seen have the same front wheels as the one on the top. The top ones back wheels I've seen on wartime H's. They had to change their metals since steel was needed for the war effort.

First off you look like you have to many tractor sitting there. #2 they all look to good to be put to work.
That said I have 4 1940 Hs and they have both types of rims on them. Not sure why but they do. I also have had As and Bs and they have also had both types on them. Could be a year thing or an option or the rims could have come from to different company that made them so they used what they had at the time. Seen that more then once where 2 or 3 company's supple another company and each part where as it fits on the same machine was a little different

As I understand, the 3 loop style front rim was a heavier duty rim; later versions had loops that were beefier. Look inside the rim for a date of manufacture.

The top H has cut-off steel wheels in the rear and non-adjustable wheels in the front. The bottom one has regular cast wheels and rims in the rear and adjustable front wheels (some people call them four-position rims).

None of the tractors pictured are mine, I keep a file on my desktop of Farmall pictures so I can daydream when I need a break.

I've got an H that I am in the process of retoring, it has the same rims as the second picture, but I've always admired the first style.

The front wheels in the first picture are of the non-adjustable width type and are most likely the "standard issue".

The front wheels in the second picture are the adjustable width spacing type, and were the "optional at extra cost" wheels.

The non-adjustable wheels are more prevalant on the earlier tractors, but the adjustable option was available for those tractors also.

One of the 4 Hs I have is a parts machine so if you find you need a few parts I may have what you need. Plus the other 3 are also for sale and they run or did. I have to many tractor to keep running all the time so a few get parked and not used. I try to cycle them around but that can be hard to do also

if those were on a w-4 or w-6 the first pic. would be correct for the standard tractor. the second pic would be what the super's came out with. have seen the first set on standards with disc brakes just prior to the "supers"as they had the super options.as far as farmalls its hard to figure out as you see all kinds of things.

LOL! Anyway I was told that earlier Farmalls had the wheels like the top picture and later ones had wheels like the bottom picture.
