Whats a Super A Worth

I have a chance to buy a Super A with mounted plow, and cultivators, and a drag. The tractor has original paint and has been housed along with the implements since new. It has been sitting for 20+ years and does not run but does turn over, it needs one front tire tube and one rear tube. I pretty well know the story of the tractor since it belonged to my dads uncle who was the second owner but it is on the original property it was bought for working up. The tractor was never actually used for farming just a 1-2 acre garden each year. The seller, my Dads cousin has confronted me with a offer and I wanted to know if $2500 is too much for it considering the condition and I have an A, B, and 2 BNs already and they were all more than a 1000 dollars cheaper.

Thanks for any advice or opinions

WAYYY too much, pricing should be more in the 400-700 tops depending on condtion. 20 years of not running can lead to alot problems, that at this time can not be seen. If your looking for a SA i would keep looking personaly.

May be a little on high side. Around here south Arkansas they still bring a good price with cultivator. 1000.00 to 2000.00 not uncommen.

Agreed.

Not to mention it hasn't run in 20 years either. I think you'll find you need more than a couple tubes when you start pulling those flat tires off too. $1000 would be a very fair offer if that included the equipment. Without the equipment - its worth its weight in scrap. Watch any old letter tractor sell that doesn't run and has flat tires, scrappers and part pullers are all that bid.

Do not know what tractor is worth but if it looks like it has always been kept inside and shows signs of being very low hour tractor I would give several times scrap price if it was near me.

That seems like a premium price for one. If it were restored to new condition and with the implements, it may be worth that, but there are too many "[u:65bf4b88fe]ifs[/u:65bf4b88fe]" on this one for the price. [u:65bf4b88fe]If[/u:65bf4b88fe] it would run okay without an overhaul, [u:65bf4b88fe]if[/u:65bf4b88fe] all it really needs are the two tubes, [u:65bf4b88fe]if[/u:65bf4b88fe] after sitting for 20 years, the radiator, hoses, hydraulics, etc. are still okay. Sounds like someone thinks it may be worth more to someone to keep it in the family.

That seems too high, but the $400 to 700 suggestion sounds way low. The implements are worth that. If it is as good as you describe, it would probably be worth the asking price IF it was running and ran OK. It sounds like it plus $1,000 of engine work would make a tractor worth the money.

Don't fall in the trap of getting it running for him, just so he can sell it to you in running condition. You might counter offer that if HE gets it running and it runs OK you will give him $2,500.

OK, I just got a little more info on it today. The tires are in the shop right now getting new tubes put in them, and the tractor will fire if gas is shot in the carb or spark plug holes but will not run just off the carb. It is still on 6 volt has and has a new battery in it from when they tried to get it running this summer.

Thanks,
Denis

Use google to search craigslistdot org .
I got 254 hits for Farmall super A. Prices vary according to market it seems.

Dennis; that Super A might need some tuneup work or a bit more.. but I would not compare it to a worn out fence row junker... I would pay extra for a low hour Super A.. 2 acres x fourty years of use would roughly equal one year of farming 80 acres.... Should still be a sound machine; and do the implements appear to have about 80 acres of use???

The tractor plow and cultivators were all bought new together and have remained their stored inside, and only used for his garden and the ocasional neighbors garden

Well, then figure $1500. One of you is going to take it in the shorts at that price, but it is a fair place to start out, if you don't know the tractor any better than what you describe. But, who knows which one of you???

I'll second that.

I would place a couple dollars on the bet in your favor. I have high hopes that since it sputters when you force gas into it that it will run. It is a whole other matter of whether it will run good or bad, but it will run. I would assume they didn't winterize it when they parked it 20 years ago and it is probably all varnished  I know...no method of storage would help it for that long. At least it isn't stuck!
