Original Farmall A steering wheel

The steering wheel on my 1945 Farmall A was bent when a support beam dropped on it due to a heavy snow load on the roof. No other damage to the tractor. I'd like to keep the original steering wheel as the Data plate on the tractor states MADE IN USA and thats the way I'd like to keep it. I have read other posts stating the aftermarket imported steering wheels do not look or feel as good as the originals. Several posts have claimed Minn-Kota company can resurface and repair the original wheel to like new condition. Will they be able to repair the bend to the dished spokes and recover the wheel to a like new original condition? If I send them the wheel will they repair and return this steering wheel or keep it as a core and return another steering wheel? Also, were the original wheels bare steel spokes or covered with rubber/plastic as it appears to look like in my Farmall A parts catalog? The wheel on this tractor which I believe to be original has bare steel spokes. Thanks for any advice or comments.

My older H, SA, and Cub all have bare spokes.
I would look/ask around locally for a one/two man machine shop. It's suprising what kind of magic these self-made engineer/faricators can perform. They might be able to repair it and you can keep track of your piece.

I have all the original steering wheels on my restored letter series Farmalls and all have been refinished by Minn-Kota Repair. They just do a wonderful job and I would be surprised if they couldn't restraighten and repair your original. I've only had one that needed to be straighten and it came back perfect.
About your concern if you get the original one or it is used as a core. You will get your original wheel back. The first ones I sent I identified with a steel stamp piece of metal attached on the wheel with my name and tractor s/n. The wheel I received back was the same one I sent as the fastening device for the wire was the one I used and it was not altered. What ever method they used to clean the wheel to bare metal before remolding the rubber grip was apparent on the metal tag as well. They have the correct feel as an original and the cost is very little more then the imported China junk which don't even look original. Hope this helps but I would certainly be surprised if you don't find them to be most satisfactory in their repair, Hal.
P.S. I have no association whatsoever with Minn-Kota Repair other then being a most satisfied customer and have provided their name to many folks with whom I have become very good tractor associates.

Del, Thank you for the rapid reply. A good machine shop is a possibility but I think I'll call Minn Kota as some of the original rubber covering has broken away where the wheel was bent.

Hal, Thank you for your reply and excellent recommendation for the Minn-Kota company. I found their website and contact information so I'll give them a call. I'd like to keep all the original parts on this tractor and pleased to send some business to a company from the USA.
