Farmall H frame rails

Can you swap out the frame rails one at a time with our any trouble?? My recent purchase was sight unseen, and ofcoarse I forgot to ask about the rails. They had been welded on. THANKS

Jack under housing just to rear of the engine. Raise just enough to hold the weight. Do not raise the front wheels off floor. Change rails as you said, one at a time.

I wouldn't worry about the welds if I was just a working tractor. I would hardly worry about them if it was a show tractor. I would weld them on both sides and then grind it smooth on the show side.

I changed mine this way one at a time. It was not hard at all. I did not use a jack to do it and the pretty much jus slide right in. Good Luck

(quoted from post at 13:12:33 01/23/11) You can change them out one at a time without having to put a jack under or supporting anything.

If you have an early model with the rubber front mounts it's probably a good idea to support the center behind the engine. The later ones with the cast iron spacer blocks you can most likely get by without any additional support.

You will need to make sure you get the correct replacement rails. On the early one the front mount holes are closer together than the later ones.
