cub with ignitor system

ok, thought to ask if someone has some experience. took a cub distributor and put the ignitor system in it. get spark at the plug end but tractor just won"t start. gas in tank fresh, fuel is in carberator, new plugs, wires, distrib cap, coil is fresh, etc. I can not understand if i am getting fire at the plug end why it won"t start. with the ignitor could my timing be out as i did have to take off the distributor body to put in the system? one thing, i spray some ether in carb and it won"t start so i think it is not a fuel problem? help thanks jeep

If you pulled the distributor and didn't note where the rotor was pointing you probably have your engine out of time.

You need to pull No1 sparkplug near the radiator and bring that piston to TDC on the compression stroke. Hold your thumb over the plug hole while a helper slowly hand cranks the engine until you feel compression against your thumb. Have the helper keep cranking while you feel for compression. When No1 piston is at tdc pull the distributor and rotate the rotor to the No1 plug tower and reinstall it. Hal

Once you are sure you have number 1 on the compression stroke, TDC can be nailed down by positioning the TDC mark on the crank pull opposite the pointed timing post.

I agree with the other fine gents. If you removed the distributore but DID NOT re install it back in time, she wont start and/or pop n bang n maybe backfire something awful. There could be other problems such as the rotor or cap etc etc but my first suspect is same as the other gents. Sure she may be firing all the plugs but NOT at the right time grrrrrrrrrrrrrr and ya know thats pretty important.
