F-20 / Regular governor

I have two running F-20s and a Regular. One of my F-20s has a variable speed governor, is their a way to convert the earlier tractors over to a variable speed or do I need a entire governor from a donor tractor. I want to do this to make the tractors more useable and more easily driven in parades or at shows.

The variable speed governor came on the 37 and later models, This 35 F20 has been converted with parts from a 37 or the IH variable speed governor kit that was avaliable. Top of gov, linkages and the slide part that bolts on the back of the gov and pulls the spring. All can be added without taking the governor off. ( you may have to take the front off if you let go of the spring)

This 36 F30 has an aftermarket variable speed governor kit. It includes the piece that bolts to the back of the gov and the linkages.

Almost every F20 in this area has been converted, I have yet to find one that hasn't been. These parts should be easy to find and are pretty simple to install.

So I can use the same governor with no internal changes and just install linkage like the ones shown to make my governor variable. If this is true I should be able to fabricate something to make this work.

No, The weights are different. The original governor
uses springs on the weights and the variable speed
does not. So you have to change out the whole works.
Also the lever inside the front cover is different.

So is their a way to convert my governors over to variable speeds with out changing the entire assembly,

NO, you have to switch everything. I generally get
about $75 for the package.

Can this be installed on a 10-20 and if so what are the advantages to it. Thank you Henry

Yes it can. The governor parts are the same. The original governor only regulated the engine at full speed. If you wanted to work at say half throttle it would keep slowing down and speeding up and you would have to keep moving the hand lever to keep it somewhat even. With the replacement variable speed governor it should compensate itself.
