remembering Dad the tradition continues. Super C

That is great to hear and see. I have a 1950 C that I used to ride the same way when I was very small (in the 60's). After Dad's passing the C would not run, and at first I was going to sell it. However, I decided that it would be worth more if it was running, and knew it would not take much to get it going again. That first time I heard it run again I knew I could not part with it - too many fond memories on and around that old Farmall C. Sooner or later I will finish making it look good again, but in the meantime I keep it maintained and work it each summer cutting hay, and small chores. Amazing how 'big' the C seemed when I was a small boy.

Very cool. When I was little Dad or my Uncle would do the same with me on his '48 Farmall H. That very tractor sits in the garage all restored and proud to this day. Many many great memories.

I too really want to add a Super C to my collection. We camp at a local KOA campground about 45 minutes south of here. I've been going there my whole life, my parents started going there a few years before I was born (21 years ago) We have a perm spot on the campground. The old owner of the place had a early 50s Super C that he used to move campers around, move decks, sheds, and pull the hay wagon. Every time I heard it fire up I'd ride around the campground on my bike to find it and see what he was up to. He knew I was always fascinated by the old Farmall, and was sure to let me sit on his lap and steer the old Super C back to the equipment barn after it's job was done. I always felt like such a badass as I'd be steering the super C on down the stone roads of the campgrounds while the other kids played in the sand box with their toy tractors watching me go by. He always told me as soon as I turned 16 he'd give me a job at the campground doing hayrides where I could drive the SC by myself. Each weekend we were there I counted down the years until I was old enough to drive it myself. I was so close, and he and his family sold the place to a new guy, and moved to Florida. I'm now 21, and the guy who runs the place now still uses the Super C from time to time, but it's not the same. Ever since then I've wanted one of my own. I'd love to have that very one, but I doubt the old man would part with it.

These stories are good examples of why we do what we do............

Makes one wonder if 30 years from now, our kids will share their iPods with their grandkids and talk of the "old" days..............

sad.

Is that your Dad in the pictures? Or you with the children? Makes me want to go dig up some pictures of me when I was a little tot. I know there's some of me on Dad's lap on the H somewhere.

funny how the world has changed since that tractor was young, and not for the better.

Andy

Isn't that the truth. I fear every day where this world is headed with kids these days. I'm only 21, but I thank god every day I was raised the way I was. It's scary what's considered "normal" for kids today. I often wish I could've been born in the 50s, instead of the late 80s. Dad and Grandpa's stories of their days growing up sure sound a lot more appealing than Ipods, Rap music, and other forms of "entertainment" to today's youth. Maybe it's just me, I don't know.

Ron, Did you ever find a battery box for your C as I haven't seen or heard of a used one around here yet. Are you wanting a complete box assembly or one made up of the sides, front and top. I think the complete box type is the one for your tractor. We'll talk before before the RPRU this summer and if you still haven't found one I should be able to find one there. I have a list of items I'm looking for on my Farmall 240 so will be rooting deep into those trailer loads of IH stuff, Hal.

I have a brand new battery box with top for a C/SC. What are they worth?

Kids never forget their first tractor rides...even if they're "city kids". My first ride was on a Allis-Chalmers 30-60 Model E "Thresherman's Special" my dad used to run in the late 1930's for a neighbor. Somebody has to say this...it might as well be me....Just be very careful and make every effort to be safe...riding anyone on a tractor is dangerous in varying degrees depending on the rider's ability to take care of themselves and small children have very little of this ability.

First rides I remember were on a 1942 JD B that Dad had. I even have an old picture Mom took of me, maybe 4 or 5 years old, sitting on that B belted up to the hammer mill. Used to sit on it while Dad was grinding feed. First tractor I remember driving was a Farmall Cub, pulling wagons up to the combine to unload oats, and first tractor I did any real work with was cultivating corn and mowing hay with a Farmall C... probably 9 or 10 years old at that time. Can't imagine putting a kid on one in the field at that age today, but I thought it was great. Luckily I was always tall for my age and could reach the clutch and brakes.
