Not a IH but hopefully some ideas.

We have a Farmtrac 555DTC and the bolts holding pinion carrier came loose and ruined the pinion bearing. In the process of doing that it broke the snap ring groove for the ring that holds the bearing on. After several phone calls to India. I am becoming less confident I will be able to get a new pinion set. They sent one over at $200 shipping alone and it was wrong. I have taken it to several machine shops and they will not touch it. An old timer at a shop that only deals rear ends said to just tack the new bearing on. Here is a picture. The one on the right is the broken one. What would you do? Would you tack it on and go? I have been 3 months without this tractor and need to get it going.

And that"s why I tell people NOT to buy "foreign" tractors. (anything other than Massey, Ford, IH/Farmall, & John Deere. That"s right, I didn"t include Kubota. Goodluck, and hopefully you will be able to get it fixed and going again.

Clint, The image I am seeing is blurred and I am having trouble understanding accurately what the trouble is. I can see that the groove on the right is broken off. Is the one on the right the new part you just bought or is the one on the left the new one and has a different sized bearing journal or what makes the new one the wrong one? LarryT

Sorry for the blurry pics Larry, but it's too cold to go out and snap a new one. The one on the right is the old one and the groove is busted out. The one on the left is a new one they sent me, but it does not have provisions for my 4x4 gear so it will only work if I delete my 4x4, which is something I do not want to do.
As far as buying a foreign tractor, my dad bought this against my better judgment, because it was 12k less than a comparable green machine. What's done is done so I just really need to get this fixed.

Clint, What I would do is find a little mom and pop machine shop that wants to help you and wants your business. Then have them weld a bead on the end of the shaft with a hard surfacing rod and build it up. The center points seem to still be there to line up on. Turn it down to the original diameter and then cut your circlip or snap ring groove. Should fix it as good as new if the rest of the pinion is ok. If you don't have anyone there that will do it I know a machinist in Albuquerque that can do it or make the whole thing. Although making the whole thing could be quite expensive. My email is always open. LarryT

If you use the good Locktight. It would need to be heated to get apart later. It would hold it on there without the need for welding or brazing and all that. The bearing will keep it in place after it is assembled. the locktight will be good to go bythe time you get the rest of it together. Just don't put the oil in till it sets for a bit. The instructions will be with the bottle or in the box.

drill and tap the end of the shaft, use a hard bolt and hard washer that just fits the inner race of the bearing. Locktite the bolt and and you should be good to go. the end of the shaft may need to be cut slightly shorter. I believe I"ve seen that design on IH products...

I tried a machine shop but they were not interested in trying. There are a few more around to try.

I thought about the drilling and tapping, but I was told by the machine shop that since the shaft was hardened it would be difficult to drill and tap it. Is this true????

There is also very, very little room behind it, so I do not think the head of a bolt would fit, but maybe a tapered phillips bolt would work.

The lock tight is an interesting idea, but I do not know if I would trust it. I think I will Loc tight it and then tack it if I have to.

Good news though, as my supplier has called India and they may have found the part I need. Escort tractors is still up and running over there, so there are parts.

Thanks for the offer Larry I will keep it in mind if I get desperate, but I think I would be pretty comfortable with the tack welds and some Loc tight though.

Thanks all for the help so far. I don't post much , but I visit almost every day. I have a 200 that my grandfather bought new 1954 I think.

would/could the parts be the same as a Ford 3000 4000 thru 3610 4610 (series II included) with an 8 forward 2 reverse transmission??
you should check on the ford forum or today"s tractors for sure.
I"m curious if there were any changes to the parts and design when ford/nh abandoned that platform.

I thought so and did post, but got no replies. I am fairly sure that the 555 is the same as a 3610. I think the big problem I am running into is that I have 4x4. I can readily get a 2x4 pinion (I have one sitting in my garage) I cannot find a 4x4 one for the 3610. Did they make a 3610 4x4???? Even if I found one trough ford it would have to be ordered and I would hate to special order it and have it not work and be stuck with it as it is a $600 part.
Hopefully my contact can get the part from Escort in India. He says they found one, but we will see?

good luck on the part shipment this time.
To research more info, try the new holland web
site for parts, you should be able to see options
and parts available on the 3610. Maybe the part
numbers are similar but no guarantees with name
changes.
Unfortunately what you would be doing requires a
lot of research by you yourself, and you may have
trouble getting satisfactory service at the
ford/nh dealer because of the type of parts
request--if they are willing to help, it will be
non returnable and no warranty. Maybe your
supplier has an A&I or Tisco account?
I guess all you can do is wait for a shipment and
fill your time with research.

Well hopefully some good news. My supplier says the new part is en route from Escort in India. He will receive it next week. He also stated he will pay for shipping the wrong part back and Escort in India will cover shipping the correct part over. The bad news is that the part "costs" $269 more and I will have to cover that. HMMM that is about how much shipping was the first time around. I'm wondering if he is increasing the price to cover shipping. It really does not matter I am just happy I can afford the part and I will be getting it.
