706 still has no hydraulics

the tractor I bought from an individual and the hydraulics worked good it would load big bales. I drained it due to the fluid being milky. I flushed it with diesel fuel, and put new filter in. Now, i have no seering, loader or lift. nothing. One other strange issue though, is that the PTO shafts turn and could not be shut off, and that problem remains. COuld it be that the pump isnt getting prime? I pulled the plug on the back of the MCV and started the tractor, and got a good spray of oil. any ideas would be much appreciated.

put 5 gallons of aditional Hytran in it (it is SOP for this condition) the added oil helps prime the pumps and also covers leaky Orings in the intake system that can cause this issue. Jim

Lee! If you are having yhat much problem get the pumps to prime, the pumps are about shot. Or you are getting air some place in side.

The PTO has its own pump to pressurize it. The hydraulics are run from the pump just behind the left step. Casting the pump bolts to looks sort of like a pentagon and has a plug on the front of it loosen plug to bleed air/prime it. The pump behind the MCV is for the steering, brakes, and trans lubrication. Probably need to change the pump on the left side or replace the o-rings where it mounts. I have had the lever to the 3pt slide side ways on the bottom shaft causing the hydraulics not to work. Pull the top link on rear look in there if the 2 levers are matched up then probably not that. you can slide it and tighten it from through that hole without draining it is tough though.

I havent idled it up much due to fear of hurting something w/ no oil in it. I checked the oil level, and it had dropped significantly. (below add) when it had been over full. I added a couple more gallons, idled it up, and it picked up enough to make the steering stiffen up and the lift raise, so theres good news. The brakes also had some movement in them as I pumped them, like air was going through them. I'll pick up another 5 of Hyd oil today and see what happens. I appreciate all the advice!

Have patience. Let it run and work the air out. You won't hurt anything. There's enough oil in the pump to keep it lubed.

An extra 5 gallons won't hurt a thing either, except your wallet.

I added another 5, and the loader actually raised, although very slowly. I let it down, and when I tried to raise it again, it kind of jumped around, like air was trying to work its way out. After this, it wouldnt raise. I pulled the drain plug on both pumps seperately, and each time, after a few seconds, oil would shoot out. I replaced the plugs, and still nothing. Is letting it run the best way to bleed the system of air? Also, the OIL light has been on throughout this process, but tonight, after adding the extra oil, and pumping the brakes, it would go off, but come back on. Thanks, Lee

(quoted from post at 22:59:54 01/19/11) The oil light is for engine oil pressure.

On a 706 the oil light is connected to both the engine oil pressure sender and the transmission lube pressure switch.
