hey guys i need to know about my glow plus. looking to replace/fix them dont know how they are wired or which switch is suppose to work them. and where is the best place to get parts? thanks

I think the glow plugs on the 424 engine are connected in parallel. No need to replace all of them unless they are all bad, as these are kind of expensive. Take the wires loose from them and check with an ohm meter to see if they have the resistance they should have. If they show high resistance (open circuit) then they are bad. Someone on the forum here may be able to tell you what the resistance should be or you can find it in a manual. You can get the replacement glow plugs you need at an IH dealer. Several have websites and sell on the internet.

Hi Forrest, the 424 has a BD-154 British made Diesel engine with glow plugs that are wired in series.
Therefore if one burns out then they all stop working.
According to caseih.com parts the part number is:
377206R92 GLOW PLUG.
Depending on where your 424 was made the glow plugs maybe activated by pushing a botton on the dash and have a glow plug meter OR you push the ignition key in between the ON and Start positions and there will be a glow plug indicator on the dash. About a week ago someone on this form was telling about substitute glow plugs for a BD-154.

I believe the thread was under IH 444 or 2444.
The B-414D, 434, 444, 384, 2444, 364 and many other models used the same BD-154 engine.

Any NAPA, Autozone. etc. can have them in one day. I've been using the Champion version for years.

As I stated in the other post, 190 Mercedes cars use the same. There are upgrade kits to get rid of the slow, low-voltage (1 volt), series design and install fast-heat plugs that run on 12 volts an use parallel wiring.
