I want this Super C

Well earlier in the weekend my girlfriend was telling me about a Super C a couple roads over from her (she lives about 45 minutes south of me) so this weekend I drove down to look at it before picking her up for the weekend. It's a pretty solid looking tractor. Rear tires are like new, fronts are okay. Converted to 12v, touch control works, has hydraulics, but no fast hitch. Guy said it was a friend of his, and the lowest he would take is 1,500. Around here that's a pretty good deal for a Super C. Most tend to go around 2,000 or so in this condition and can bring 2,500-3,000 with fresh paint. I didn't drive it today, but I'm thinking about going back and taking it for a ride. Wish I could afford it now, but unfortunatly I have to sell one of my H's first. But for whatever reason I really want this thing. Ever just look at something and know it feels like it should come home with you? 8)

Looks don't really tell ya a lot, but it looks like mebbe a well-kept tractor.

I happened across my SuperC (in a lot worse shape) in a similar fashion. Was travelin' back from the DC area and decided to take a different route back, and there it was. Bought it, hired a rollback to bring it to our weekend place, and spent the summer rebuildin' the motor and Touch Control.

My BN is my Princess, but I'm on board with those who say the SuperC was probably the handiest tractor IH ever made. Mine had a wide front, so it was an ark to maneuver in the tight spaces I had, but eventually did some horse tradin' to get a narrow front for it.

Wouldn't be without it.

I have a M, two H's, and a regular C, and have wanted a Super C for a while. I like my C and all, but it just seems like kind of a turd. It doesn't seem to have a ton of power. I've drove a Super C before and it felt so different than my C, so I'm hoping this one is the same way. I'm probably going to sell the C once it's back together, and one of my H's. I hope I can somehow work a deal on this one as long as it drives well.

Here's my C to date.

Where is that tractor located? I have been looking for a Super C too! Around here you are lucky to find one that even runs for only $1500...

I have a very nice 1951 Super C with a dozer blade(no loader) on it for moving snow. Picts can be found in the photo galleries (search "Loren"). Great tractor! I'm able to push snow as high as the hood with a 7ft blade. My IHC 756, Allis D17 and Moline 302 just set in the barn while the SC does the work in winter.
Hope you can buy it!

Faster346; I'd keep your good looking girlfriend and have her keep an eye out for a SC w/fast-hitch instead of this one. The fast-hitch makes IH tractors unique and this one would just be a drawbar tractor. I also like 'em original so the 12 volt conversion...The gas tank looks dent free. I see rust around a valve stem; are the tires loaded/rim condition. With the location, transport/driving it to your place would be cheap w/rising fuel prices. I got's me my first letter series Farmall October past just because it was unique. Also an easy in-state haul on my trailer. Your project looks good and...me thinks the SC has bit you; the red-iron disease afflicts another one.

Nice looking tractor! I have the same thing and I like it alot better than the H I had. I paid 1400 for about the same tractor about 8 years ago. I put a Sag. 3 point hitch on mine which makes the tractor much more useful, for me, as I already have lots of three-point stuff and don't have to go out and look for the two-point things that I would only be able to use on that tractor. I converted mine to 12 volt also. I don't care about it being 100% oringinal, I like to use it around the farm and makes for a good conversation piece with the people that come and go here.

I would like a fast hitch tractor, because I've never had one before. But my current C has a three point on it that I'd probably just put on this tractor, and then sell my C.

I forgot to ask if the tires were weighted, he said he just put the tires on about a year ago, so I doubt it, I don't think many people do that anymore do they? If so I'm sure they don't use the same calcium chloride that was used years ago and harmful to wheels.

I also use my tractors around the farm, they are not just show pieces. The 12v goes either way for me. My 6v C usually starts fine so that's a plus, but my 6V M will never start when it's cold out, I wish it were 12v. My current C has a 3-point on it that I would swap onto this SC since it doesn't have the fast hitch. Most of our stuff (backblades, finish mowers, sickle mower, ect) is 3-point.

That tractor is VERY close to me so best snap her up while you can. Often considered a SC for my next one. I like them a lot. There is also a guy up here who buys tractors like that and does terrible things with them. But if you want my opinion on condition, here it is...

It looks like an older repaint. Anything could be under that paint. Rusty tractors are honest tractors.

It looks like there might be a crease in the grill. Fixable.

12 volt conversion can mean it was not starting on 6v. It should. Maybe a problem with the engine and they decided the conversion was easier than fixing it...maybe not.

12 volt conversion. How is the wiring? Did they do it right or is it a bunch of cheap HI store wire strung all over. Harnesses can cost.

Battery box is gone and that can be expensive.

Rust around valve stems could mean that your rims are very thin on the inside. Leastwise every one that I have seen with that type of rust had bad rims...usually from chloride leak.

Tires look average.

Just my opinions. Dave

Just thought you'd like to know that I noticed it has the optional hydraulic remote valve and controls. This option is usually found in conjunction with the fast hitch. I actually sold a hydraulic remote valve and control set (just a "take-off" in "as-is" condition) last summer. A guy from Louisiana drove up to purchase it (320 miles), and I got $325.00 for it. Sooo, if you bought it and didn't plan on needing that set-up, you could sell it and get the tractor that much cheaper. Also, I would ask the owner what exactly he has to go with or fit the tractor. You never know, he might have the fast hitch laying behind the barn, not needed or might not know what it is, but had came with tractor when he got it. I have ran into that situation MANY times. Usually they will just throw that stuff in. It is best to ask, and ALSO look around for yourself, because they might not know what goes with what and might have attachments for it. It would be your luck, he'd have something with some worth, and you buy the tractor and leave it behind. HAHA.

Very good info, and I'll be sure to ask him next time I talk to him.

The 12v conversion had me questioned as well. I can see on a H or an M where they get harder to start in the cold, but my C always fires right up in the cold with 6v. Perhaps it was just an "upgrade to get with the times" I know my neighbor converts all his tractors to 12v just for ease of issues. If it's dead, he can jump it off anything. If he needs a battery in a pinch, he can pull one out of anything, ect. The battery was disconnected when I stopped to look at it, and I hooked it up and pulled on the rod and it was deader than a doornail. The guy I talked to said "Well it's been sitting in the cold for a while now, so the battery/cells could be frozen, you know how that goes" so I'm not sure what that means. I didn't talk to the owner when I looked at the tractor, I left my name and number and he had called me later on. I might call back and tell him to charge the battery up so I can see how it runs/drives, but I really don't want to waste his time until I have the money for it. The tires are muddy in the picture, and it's hard to tell in the cell phone pictures, but they are close to brand new.

Jim, There is two farmall c"s for sale in Liberty Center. I have not looked at them so not sure if they are super c/s ornot. Both for 1500.00 He siad one is a parts tractor the other one can be fixed up

The first picture shows the tires well. The rest make them look like the older grayish tires that most seem to have. Good tires would be a big incentive to buy. Looks like it drips from the carb too but that may be something with the pics also and no big deal. I see nothing that would make me run in the other direction. Dead battery may mean you need to buy a new one either right away or soon. If it were me I would probably hear it run, drive it around a bit, put a load on it even if it were just the brakes and if I were still smiling I would tell him my budget was $1200 but could maybe go as high as thirteen and try to settle for $1400. Trade him for the H? Get it off the side of the freeway for the parts vultures come along.

I'm not crazy about the dead battery. People who want to sell tractors as running should be sure they are. Get it running. Let it run a while. If he tries to shut it off quickly he may be worried about something.

This was my plan. Let it run for a bit, warm it up, drive it around, shut it off and see how it starts then. I asked if he would be interested in my H on trade and he said he already had a H and super H, and was trying to thin out his collection. He asked about my M, but I really don't think I could let that tractor go, it's my baby.

Here's a better picture of the tires I took today when I went and bought it
