I'm look into buying a round baler and came upon a couple 8420's. I have no idea what to look for as far as problem areas, and it says it has hydrolic tie. Is this good? Also how do they knot, and what years were they made? May sound like stupid qustions but we have always square baled, and cant find help anymore. Thanks

The 8420 was a pretty good baler. Check the belts for wear. Check the rollers for loose bearings. The finger wheels at each end of the pickup were known to be a trouble spot, and they are big bucks to replace. Round balers don't have knotters they just wrap the twine around the bale. The hydraulic wrap uses a small hydraulic cylinder to move the twine arm putting the twine around the bale. You need to have 2 remote valves on your tractor to use this.
