Holes in H hydraulic control lever arm?

The H hydraulic control level arm has two holes in it, one has the on/off pull switch in it, what is the other hole for?

The shutter control would have been located in the plate below. This is how my "49 was arranged. As far as the ignition swith goes it was in the same plate. Maybe I"m wrong but doesn"t the ignition switch have a flat spot on the threaded part that would match up to the hole in the lower plate to keep it from spinning?

I have on/off switch in hole #2. Hole #3 is empty and the push/pull rod for the belt pullye is tucked close to the left brake peddle. Actually a little too close, sometimes when I stomp on the brake peddle the belt pulley gears grind.
My '41 H has a shutter control but the mounting plate doesn't quite look like Seth's and there is no second hole where he has his on/off mounted. I don't have a picture of it though.

I'm tempted to keep the tractor close to orginal, but really dislike the big starter button (mounted on the bottom of the column on a '41) and am considering installing a 300 IH off/run/start ingintion key, just not sure where to put it, i think it needs a bigger hole than the on/off. Sacrilegious to replace on/off switch and starter button with an ignition key?

It would be a lot nicer at a show or some other place where people might hit the starter. It also couldn't get stolen out of the shed as easy.

The drawings in parts catalog show the holes empty on H with shutter control and ignition like Seth's. M shows shutter control and ignition in those holes. Would think there were some variations over the years though.

Lots of variations over the years. If it came from the factory WITHOUT hydraulics, then it wouldn't have that arm, and I've seen several earlier Hs that didn't have that lower plate for mounting the ignition switch.

All of those controls would have been red from the factory I'm guessing. They're cast aluminum ,but no attempt was made to mask them off. I'm just a detail freak and spent time polishing everything that was cast aluminum by hand. That includes the light switch knob, shutter control, ignition switch knob, magneto housing and the throttle shaft housing to the carb.
I have also been polishing Sch. 40 stainless pipe to come out of the exhaust manifold. It's a nice touch to the stainless muffler I have from Mark's. I have pipes for sale if interested.

Seth, How long have you had the SS muffler from Mark's Tractor as he was saying at last years RPRU he thought he might be losing his manufacturing source for them? My email is open so let me know what models you have the SS exhaust pipes for if for more then just the H series tractor like maybe the C and M series tractors. Thanks, Hal.

Mark hasn't had an ad in Red Power Magazine the last 2 issues. I realize he farms full time, but this is winter, I left a message on his answering machine twice in the last couple of weeks-- I don't think he is still in business. Carter and Gruewald also had their own source of the OEM style mufflers (different from Marks), their supplier claims they can't get the materials. So, unless someone corrects me, I don't think any of those mufflers, stainless or otherwise are available. I hope I am wrong.

Charles, you could try and reach him through Ron Berlage of Pilot Knob Restorations as they are fairly close in proximity and I think exchange some items back and forth. Ron would probably know what he is up to if you're trying to contact him for something. Mark is certainly a notch or two above hard to contact especially for someone with a parts supply business even if just part time. I go through the same problems but ever now and then he just answers the phone and ships it right out. I think he acquires a lot of his items that he also sells as he is very particular with his expo level restorations and wants really authentic reproductions when they are the only thing obtainable. Ron's phone no. is 815-777-0826 as noted on his catalog if this helps, Hal.

Does anyone have a cutaway drawing of those original mufflers? Just wondering how they were built that makes them so quiet?
