Gallitz!?! Is that you?

I would guess the 400 is lighter, but with that the 560 front bolster is lighter than the 400/M series. Are you sure it would bolt up since the 460 is more like a 400 than the 560.

No need to guess, I have a SMTA with mostly 560 internals in the transaxle. There are some bearing and bearing retainer differences in addition to ratio changes in the differential and transmission. I made the alterations to get a slow speed SMTA. It will do about .70 mph at rated speed in low-range first gear.

Don't know what a 460 has to do with anything related to the larger frame tractors. It's a miniature 560 with hardly any parts interchangeability.

560 replaced the 450, 460 replaced the 350. Rear housings of the 450/560 are very similar, as are 350/460. Weights of the housings of the 400/560, do not differ much, nor do the 350/460.

If you mean weight wise and include the center housing, the 560 with hydraulic pump or pumps inside would be more weight. From the center housing back I'm guessing the 400 may be 60 pounds or less than the 560. There was some serial # breaks on the 560. Some had thicker walls on the axle housings. Trans housing was beefed up a little.

I see, I thought the 560 was a new series of tractor larger than the existing lines.

560 was same basic as 400-450, these evolved from the M-SM-SMTA, rear axle cap gaskets, rear frame top cover gaskets, split gaskets & axle housing mount gaskets all same, gears interchanged somewhat, differential gears & cross were same, bull gears & brake shafts didnt, in fact early 560 had 450 bull gears that were recalled & changed, these are the tractors that serial plate was a diamond triangle added. Axle bearings & pinion brake shafts upgraded to later serial 560. Transmission somewhat common.

(quoted from post at 06:06:58 01/17/11) not so, the 400, 450, and 560 go together.
all originate from the w-6 .

W6? How about the M?

W6 is cooler than the M therefore the M is really a copy cat

The M is taller, therefore the operator is exposed to more cool breezes, thus making the M cooler than a W6   :)
