706 update and new issues.

I was able to find the plug that lies in between the plugs for the finals- I had to pull the draw bar to see it. The plug was stripped out and froze in, so I drilled it out, and tried to easy-out the plug. Broke the easy out off in the plug. Was able to blow away enough of the easy out and heat the plug enough to get a 1/2 inch extension in the recesse plug and weld it in place. GOt the plug out, replaced hyd filter, new plug and filled her up w/ hyd oil. No hydraulics, no steeriing, lift and front end loader wont raise. I pulled all 3 drain plugs to make sure oil was there, and it was. The steering wheel turns way easy, so Im guessing theres not oil, and may have an air lock. Any of your expertise would be appreciated!

one trick i"ve heard, but never tried- is to turn the steering wheel all the way over to one side and keep pushing that way. helps to catch prime. the other thing you can do is pull one of the plugs on the back of the MCV- forget for sure, but think it"s the lower one- crank her over, but be ready to shut down, cause when she catches prime, the oil will pour out of there.

I had a similar problem once on my 706. Put my air hose in the transmission filler neck and stuffed a rag between the neck and the air hose to allow for "some" pressure to be built up in the transmission case. The pressurization "pushed" the oil through the system and into the pump. Worked. Good luck.

Still no lift, steering, (wheel turns in both directions with no resistance) front end loader wont budge. I pulled the plug on the bottom of the mcv also, thinking that might allow air to pass. I have started it and tried the opereating levers several times with no luck. Any other ideas would be helpful. Thanks, Lee

If I recall correctly you just got this tractor from a scrap yard. Did the hydraulics work before you started to change oil and filter? Does the PTO start up? If not the problem may be the PTO input shaft splines in the clutch pressure plate. The PTO drive shaft also drives both hydraulic pumps. Usually they will make some noise but that goes away if it has been run long enough with the splines worn out. Another possibility is the rivets sheared off the back of the pressure plate cover. When that happens there usually is no noise. You can inspect this by removing the cover under the clutch and looking up between the clutch release levers on the pressure plate.

Owen, a little history-I bought that filter retainer from the salvage yard- the tractor I bought from an individual and the hydraulics worked good and it would load big bales. I drained it due to the fluid being milky. I flushed it with diesel fuel, and put new filter in. Now, nothing. One other strange issue though, is that the PTO shafts turned and could not be shut off, and that problem remains. COuld it be that the pump isnt getting prime?
