I have f20 with a serial number of 136029. By what I have been told this would make it a 1940 model that was built with left over parts since production of the farmall ceased in 1939. Is there any truth to this.

Thanks alot

If your serial number is correct it is a 1940. A few F20 and F30 tractors were assembled in 1940 although they were not the current model as M & H and other letter series were introduced in 1939.

Thats what i have read they still made some after the H and M were out with left over parts cause they still had orders for them.

Your F20 was made in Dec. of 1938, possibly the last day or two of Dec as IHC started with #136042 the beginning of Jan. 1939.

IH's model year started in December and ended in November, so the tractor was produced in December of '38 but was a 1939 model year.

They did not make any f-20 in 1940.The last one was made in april of 1939.The reason for the split serial numbers is because in 1933 they made 661 ta prefix tractor for the depression. They started at 135000 and ended at 135661.When they got to them numbers in 1939 with the FA prefix they jumped to 135700 so no tractor had the same number.Alot of serial number charts have 1940 listed. You have to find one that someone has checked very well.

For the high number F-20s check the casting date. I have seen "J" casting dates which would make it a 1940.

I suspect that IHC cast a few F-20 parts in 1940 to help use up their left over pieces. If so, I believe that would make them 1940 models.
