706 hydraulic reservoirs

I drained the oil from the two plugs on the bottom of the rear end,and it was clean oil. I drained the hyd reservoir, and it was white as milk. I then ran diesel through the system with a new filter, and drained again. NO diesel came out of the rear drains. I was of the understanding that this tractor used the same oil for the steering, transmision and rear end. I have an IT manual coming, but havent got it yet. If its a different oil, where is the fill for it? Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge.

These two plugs didn't happen to be on the left and right, did they?

If so, those are the final drives, and they are filled separately.

There are three plugs across the bottom of the rear frame. The center one drains the rear frame assembly. the other two are for the final drives.

I drained about 5 gallon from the two rear plugs-yes one on right and one on left, on either side of housing under the finals. Where is the fill for those, and do they take gear grease or hyd oil? I finally got the IT shop manual, and it is lacking in my opinion. It covers 14 models..

what owen said. the final drives are filled from the side- there is a square headed pipe plug. fill to the plug with the same hydraulic/transmission oil. it will take less to fill than you drained out- what happens is, over time, oil from the transmission works its way through the bearings and overfills the final drives. (and by time, i mean years or decades). that's no problem, just keep the level on the stick where it belongs.

Get the owner's manual for the lubrication guide. You can still get reprints of the 706 manual from your CaseIH dealer, albeit with the current-style cover.

The finals are filled through the level check plug on the side. Use Hytran.
