It's converted and charging! '41 Farmall H

Thanks to all the great advice here, I finally got My H converted to 12 volts. I used a Hitachi alternator and have about 1/2" of clearance under the hood (The delco simply wouldn't fit). I had already purchased a converstion mounting bracket so just used that, although I could have just drilled out the original. The diode is soldered to the red wire coming off the resistor mounted to the coil. The diode is triple shrink wrapped for rigidity as Bob suggested. The fusable link is the thick green wire. My parts store didn't rate the links by amps, so it was suggested to me that 14guage was the approporiate site fusable link.

Nice job on the 12v conversion and alt. Unless one wants to impress the "correct police" an alt is the best way to go.

I like to bring this up, because it creates interesting discussion. Why not a 1-wire? I have done both 3-wire and 1-wire conversions and have yet to have a 1-wire fail. Much simpler install, just requires that you rev the engine to "excite".

Neverless, very clean install on the H.

My project engineer has had problems with a couple 1 wires in a row. That and the fact that you don"t need to rev the engine to charge, swayed me. Sound like either would be fine.
