Farmall A carberator

I got a carb from a salvage yard and rebuilt it as my old one was cracked. The new carb is a zenith. runs decent. few complaints though.
1. have to use 1/4 choke no matter what I try to adjust nothing really changes.
2. If the tractor is turned off fuel just pours out of the hole between the air cleaner and the carb.
3. If I have the tractor on and I turn the fuel off the tractor shuts off in about 3 secinds seems a bit fast.
4. seems to burn gas like its goin out of style. My BN you dump 5 gallons in itll go for ever. this A itll last 5 or 6 hours.
ANY help would be appreciated!!!!

for one thing, your float appears to be either 1.) stuck open 2.) way out of adjustment 3.) leak in float.

also, sounds like your carb has junk in the fuel ports..........

Hard to tell without seeing it, but based upon your description those would be my starting points.

When you rebuilt that carb did you soak it overnight in clean carb cleaner?

Did you check your float to see if it leaked by immersing in hot water and looking for bubbles?

Did you buy a quality kit and install it or just tear it down and clean it?

You have a problem with your float and/or needle and seat. They are not working together to shut off the gas as needed. I would start by disassembling and cleaning very well. Check the float and replace if necessary. When you get your carb clean use some rubber gas line with in line filter for a while to make sure that you are not being chased in circles by crud from the tank...BTDT. You can reinstall the old line after you get things a-runnin right.
