6 volt Battery Tender with 8 volt battery

Does anyone know if you can use a 6 volt "BATTERY TENDER " on a 8 volt battery just to be sure the battery stays up to 6 volts if not used in a long time. I know they make a 8 volt TENDER but I have extra 60 volt units.

I dont think anyone can say for certain WITHOUT HAVING THE SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE CHARGER/TENDER
I sure cant sittin here in the dark

BUTTTTTTTTT that being said, some of low amp tenders only supply a trickle charge to begin with at the correct voltage so if its designed for a 6 volt battery but you use it on an 8 volt battery IM NOT SURE IT WILL SUPPLY ENOUGH IF ANY CURRENT TO MAINTAIN AN 8 VOLT BATTERY

If you hook it up and can measure positive charging current flow out of it into the battery and the battery voltage rises a bit THEN ID SAY YES ITs WORKING, but I wouldnt be willing to bet on that absent other specifc info/data...

I have a golf cart with 8 volt batteries and I had two batteries that were lower than the rest of the pack (long story, and irrelevant). I bought a Deltran Battery Tender for 8 volt batteries. I think it cost about $50 and is made for [b:71fbffcbee]8 VOLT BATTERIES[/b:71fbffcbee]. A six volt charger will not charge the battery to 100% and will shorten the life of the battery.

I found the following through GOOGLE.

Battery Tender Plus 8 Volt #BT8V

If it were me, this is what I would buy for an 8 volt battery.

Good luck,

A 6 volt tender on a 8 Volt battery will damage the battery. I would actually feel better about using a 12 volt tender on it. But you would have to check it a couple of times a week to make sure the fluid level is up in the battery. If I were you I would go to I think it's batteries + or the Interstate Battery store and I believe they carry the 8 volt tenders. I'd rather be safe than sorry for a couple of bucks. LarryT

I agree with the posts below, but had a thought. If you have a 12 volt tender, you could use a light bulb in series with the tender on one lead. the resistance of the light bulb should be such that the charger puts about 1/2 to one volt more than the fully charged disconnected voltage of that battery. Good luck, Jim

Each cell of a lead/acid battery should produce 1.1 to 1.2 volts. If an 8 volt battery only produces 8 volts or slightly less it is considered discharged. You cannot maintain an 8 volt battery at 6 volts, therefore, you need an 8 volt charger, minimum. Jim

Should be 2.10-2.13 volts/cell * 4 cells = 8.4-8.52 volts. Charging voltage should be about 2.25 volts/cell for about 9.0 volts. Compared to 6.75 volts to charge a 6 volt battery. This is why a VR adjustment and an 8 volt battery tender are required with 8 volt batteries.

Enjoy,
