Hy-tran in 300 rearend?

Stopped in to see a friend today. He had just got his 300 row crop back from the repair shop. Had a new Ta put in. They refilled the rear end with Hytran fulid. I told him it should have been 85-90 gear lube. He called the shop they said no it is suppose to been changed from gear lube to Hytran. And he could drain down 5 gallons and add 85-90 if he wanted and it would thicken up the oil when warm weather comes! What should he do? Thanks

My 300 has had hytran in it since the 60's.

Still has the orginal TA and the rear end has never been opened.

Hytran is fine or even better in my mind.

Gary

Hytran only. Gear oil will cause TA problelms. IH found that out shortly after they started selling TA equipped tractors.

The original lubrication guide states, "A mixture of one quart IH Torque Amplifier Transmission Lubricant Additive to each four gallons of SAE-10 or SAE-10W engine oil."

HyTran is the modern equivalent to that.

Nothing but Hy-Tran as the fluid is shared with the TA. You will probably have more problems and expense then you want using thickened fluids, Hal

If yours has Gear oil in it that may be a component of the problem. Are you making any progress. Jim
