706 Hydraulic filter retainer missing.

I went to replace the hyd. filter, and found that the retainer which the filter sets in is missing, so consequently, the filter was not making a good seal. The relief valve and screen were intact. I was unable to find one in the parts section. Does anyone know where one could be purchased? THank You, Lee.

My best suggestion is to throw all the old guts out and get a filter extension from www.allied-precision.com . I installed one on my 504 running a 17 gpm pump and it is dollar-for-dollar the best part I have ever bought for the tractor. It uses modern IH filters that are cheaper and probably in stock. No one ever had the 504 filters in stock. Wix also makes the filter that fits in my extension and I can get it at NAPA or O'Riley's.

Good luck,

You need the retainer and the seal ring that goes behind it. Part number 382246R11 for the retainer and 382247R1 for the seal ring. Used parts should be available from any 06 through 3X88 series tractors. The retainer was changed during the 66 series to a press fit type, part number 382246R21, and the use of the seal ring was discontinued.

The parts appear to be available from CNH. Retainer number 382246R21 has been discontinued but 382246R11 is priced at $14.94. Seal ring 382247R1 has been replaced by 239 5160 priced at $8.50.

What is CNH website? The local Case/IH dealer says its no longer available, salvage yard only. I looked at the extension, but does that negate the need for the retainer? Looks like you would still need it.

Charles is talking about the original (but not for long) type where there were 2 little doughnuts inside an assembly. I recall his tractor still had that type, and his dealer repeatidly didn't recommend the modern one piece oval version we all are accustomed to. In following the hydraulic project he undertook, the Allied adaptor for thicker oval filter was the best way for him to go. Everyone's mileage seems to vary :)

Thanks karl f. I did not go into details, but the filters I had were the two donut style. And as karl f stated, your mileage will vary. As for if the retainer is required with the extension kit, I don't know ??? But I do recommend the upgrade if you value you hydraulic system.

Karl f, do you still need a hydraulic valve? I apologize for falling off the face of the earth.

The filter on the 706 is completely different from the 504. It has a cartridge type filter, always has. The filter extension for a 706 will not solve your problem. You need the inner filter seat to make your filter fit properly.

I found it at a salvage yard. Thanks for all the replies and the help. The salvage yard has a lot of old tractors of all makes. Dad has a 560 w, a narrow front and I saw at least 3 down there. Near Jerico Springs, MO if anyone is interested.

I'm glad you found what you needed. If you really were not able to come up with one I would have offered you one that I have. They would be from 706/806 that I parted out about 20 years ago so I'm sure they would be rusty by now.
