B Farmall Block Hole

What do you use to plug a hole in a block?
Pulled the sleeves on the B Farmall and was scratching around in the water jacket area getting rust and scale out. Up near the front by the camshaft bore, it was very thin and I poked thru. I now have a small hole between the water jacket and the crankcase.

I was thinking about sand blasting the area to get to bare cast iron and then brasing it shut. Anybody had good luck doing this kind of repair?

Thanks

Heat, I have none my self. But have seen others that have done all kinds of brazz repair on blocks and the tractor is running. So I guess they have had good lucke with it. JB weld is good for exterior repairs. oldiron29

That is what I would do. I would heat the whole block to at least 150 degrees before brazing to keep temperature shock to a minimum. If it is thin there, baybe a sand blasting of other potential leak areas would assure a good repair, and confidence. Jim

JBweld is a good product.over50 years ago,my uncle froze(and cracked) the block on his M.The repair is still holding and the tractor still enjoys regular use

Yep, plan on giving it a good cleaning and sandblasting in the suspect areas. Don't need to repair one area and then find another.

Reading up on brazing cast, they recommend using a carbide cutter instead of a grinder. A grinder embeds carbon in the area which will not allow a good bond. They also said to have the block up to a temp that will melt the brazing rod without being in the flame.

Anybody used Muggy Weld products?

Rumor has it that it doesn't take much to stop a leak in an A/B bc it isn't a pressurized system. If you can get a welding rod in there you can just arc weld it. There is a lot better technology out there now days. Brazing worked well, but the new Supermissle rods, etc are awesome.
